Why bring a city vehicle out of the city?
Taking a Nottingham-based vehicle to a workshop means crossing the city, joining the A52 or the A453 and losing a driver for most of a shift. For a lot of faults that is more disruption than the job deserves. A leaking air line, a failed brake light, a damaged suzie, a wiring fault behind a lamp cluster or a trailer coupling that won't connect can all be dealt with where the vehicle is parked, by a technician who turns up with the tools and the common parts.
Where we work
Mobile work takes us wherever Nottingham's vehicles are kept or working. That might be a yard in Bulwell or Basford, a unit on Beeston Business Park, a site in Hucknall or Netherfield, or premises in the city centre where the vehicle is parked between drops. It might be a lay-by on the A46 where a driver pulled over after a warning light. If the vehicle can't be moved safely, we come to it.
Defects from the morning check
Drivers' walkaround checks turn up a steady stream of small defects: a lamp out, a cut tyre, an air leak heard as pressure builds, a damaged coupling. Those have to be fixed before the vehicle goes out again. Ring when the defect is reported and we will plan a visit to fix it at your premises, if possible while the vehicle isn't needed, such as overnight or before the first shift. The repair is written up to match the defect report, which is exactly what DVSA expects to find when it looks at your records.
What we fix where it stands
Most mobile jobs involve air systems, brakes, lighting and electrics, tyres and wheels, and the connections between tractor unit and trailer. Where a fault isn't obvious, the technician diagnoses it with the kit on the van before replacing anything.
Knowing when to stop
Some jobs need a ramp, lifts and time: major components, structural repairs and anything that calls for specialist equipment. Rather than attempting a kerbside repair that won't last, we will tell you, and either recover the vehicle or book it into our workshop at Calke Mill Farm, Melbourne, which takes planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00.
Planned visits, not only emergencies
If a vehicle has a known fault or an advisory from its last inspection, we can arrange to come to your Nottingham premises at a time that keeps it earning, out of hours if that suits. Give us the registration, the fault, where the vehicle is parked and how we get in, and when it next needs to be working. Repeated faults on the same vehicle are worth flagging, because they usually mean a closer look is due at its next service. For anything that has just failed, ring 01332 916028 at any hour.
