The roads in and out of the city
The A52 is Nottingham's main link to Derby and the M1. Between the Pentagon Island in Derby and the Queen's Medical Centre it is Brian Clough Way, a mainly dual-carriageway road that crosses the motorway at the busy junction 25 at Sandiacre and passes Stapleford, Bramcote and Bardill's Island along the way. From the QMC it carries on as part of the city's ring road, over Clifton Bridge, past the roundabouts for the A60, the A606 and the A6011, and out through Gamston towards the A46 at Saxondale. Add the A453 to the M1 and Clifton, and a Nottingham breakdown can happen on a fast dual carriageway, a busy roundabout or a narrow city street.
Whichever it is, ring 01332 916028. The line is answered at any hour, every day of the year.
Pinpointing the vehicle
On roads like these, an exact location saves a lot of time. Tell us the road, the direction of travel and the nearest landmark: the junction number, Bardill's Island, the QMC junction, the Clifton Bridge approach, or a postcode or what3words reference from the driver. If the vehicle has stopped near Bramcote, say which lane; along that stretch the left lane of the dual carriageway is a bus lane. Then tell us what the vehicle is, whether it is loaded, and what it did before it stopped.
Repair first, recover when we must
We go out intending to fix the vehicle where it has stopped. Air leaks, electrical and lighting faults, flat batteries, tyre damage and fuel problems can often be put right on the spot by a technician carrying the right tools and parts, which keeps the delivery and the driver's shift alive. A repair beside a dual carriageway is not always safe, though, and we will not try one where it puts the driver or our technician at risk.
When repair isn't the right answer, we recover the vehicle with equipment built for heavy commercials, to our workshop at Melbourne or to your own yard if you would rather your fitters took it on.
Keeping the driver safe
On a fast road, the driver comes first: hazards on, out of the cab on the side away from the traffic, and behind the barrier where there is one. In a city street, stay clear of moving traffic and the trams, keep the phone switched on and have the registration ready.
After we leave
You will hear what failed, what we did, and whether the fix is permanent or only good enough to get the vehicle home. Operators who have never used us before are welcome to call, with card payment on the day; contract customers are billed on account.
