City miles are hard miles
A vehicle that spends its working day in Nottingham does a lot more than its mileage suggests. Delivering into a city of more than 320,000 people means traffic lights, roundabouts, bus lanes and tram routes, short hops between drops and plenty of time idling. Stop-start work like that wears brakes, clutches, filters and fluids far faster than steady running on the M1, and a service schedule that ignores it will find worn parts too late.
So we start with the manufacturer's schedule, by distance, hours or time, whichever falls first, and then adjust it for the way each vehicle is actually used. A van working the streets of Sneinton, Radford and the Meadows needs a different plan from a tractor unit that spends most of its week on the motorway, even if both are the same age.
What the workshop looks at
Each service takes in the oil, filters and fluids; belts, hoses and cooling; the brakes and air system; steering, suspension and wheels; lighting, wiring and charging; and the clutch and gearbox. Wear that isn't urgent yet is reported as an advisory, with an honest view of how long it can wait, so you can plan the work into a quiet week rather than have it forced on you.
Inspections on the same trip
The journey from Nottingham to our workshop at Melbourne is one most operators would rather make once. When a PMI falls due near a service, we book them together, and the vehicle comes back serviced, inspected and signed off.
Specialist and emergency vehicles
Emergency-service vehicles are a familiar sight in Nottingham, which is home to the headquarters of East Midlands Ambulance Service and of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service. Vehicles like these, and other specialist vehicles that simply can't be unreliable, are part of what our workshop maintains, on the same lifts and to the same standard as the HGVs, coaches, minibuses and vans.
Warning signs between services
Some things should not wait for the due date. Ring us if a driver reports a warning light that comes and goes, a loss of power, the vehicle pulling under braking, air pressure taking longer to build, fluid levels dropping between checks, or a new noise or vibration. Caught early, those become planned repairs rather than breakdowns on the ring road.
Booking
Call 01332 916028 with the vehicle, its mileage or hours and when it is due. The workshop at Calke Mill Farm, Ashby Road, Melbourne is open for planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00. Before winter, it is worth asking us to check batteries, charging and lights at the same visit, and cooling systems before the summer.
