Where Derby's vans and trucks spend their day
A lot of commercial driving in Derby never touches a motorway. It loops between depots and the out-of-town shopping around the city: the Kingsway Retail Park off the A38, the Meteor Centre on Mansfield Road and the Wyvern Retail Park near Pride Park. Pride Park itself was built on the land of the old railway locomotive works, and the city's engineering base, from the aero-engine makers to the train builders at Litchurch Lane and the businesses at the Railway Technical Centre, keeps vans and trucks running between suppliers all week. Those vehicles develop faults in yards and loading bays as often as on the open road, and that is the work our mobile technicians are set up for.
A fault in the yard, fixed in the yard
When a driver books a vehicle off at the end of a shift with an air leak, a lamp out or a damaged coupling, it rarely needs to leave the premises. We come to it with diagnostic equipment, air fittings, electrical parts and fluids, find the cause and put it right, often in the evening so the vehicle is ready for the morning. Each job is written up, so the defect on the driver's sheet and the repair on our record match, which is what DVSA expects to see.
The same applies to planned work. If a trailer came out of its last inspection with an advisory, or a van has a fault you have been living with, we can book a visit to your Derby site at a time that fits your rota, instead of taking the vehicle out of service for a trip down to the workshop. Ring 01332 916028 to arrange it.
When we say it needs the workshop
Some jobs don't belong in a car park. Major component changes, structural repairs and anything that needs the vehicle on lifts are done properly at our workshop at Calke Mill Farm, Ashby Road, Melbourne, which takes planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00. If we find on site that a repair falls into that category, we tell you before we start rather than leaving a temporary fix in place, and we can recover the vehicle or book it in for you to bring down.
Faults on the move
If the fault happens out on the road rather than in the yard, the same technicians take breakdown calls on the same number, day and night, and start with a roadside repair wherever it is safe to do one.
