A city that runs on passenger transport
Nottingham moves a lot of people by road. Nottingham City Transport is the biggest transport operator in the city, with 330 buses, while Trent Barton runs services to towns such as Beeston, Mansfield and Derby and Stagecoach East Midlands has routes to Sherwood Forest, Mansfield and Chesterfield, from Broadmarsh and Victoria bus stations and stops around the centre. Two tram lines cross the city too. Alongside all of that are the coaches and minibuses carrying groups to places like the castle, Wollaton Hall, the Trent Bridge cricket ground, the National Ice Centre or the National Water Sports Centre at Holme Pierrepont.
When one of those coaches or minibuses stops, it isn't only a vehicle off the road. It is a group of people stuck at the roadside and an itinerary coming apart.
Breakdowns with people on board
Ring 01332 916028 the moment it happens, at any hour, and tell us where the vehicle is and how many passengers are with it. We will help the driver keep everyone safe: hazards on, the vehicle away from moving traffic, and on the M1 or a fast stretch of the A52, passengers off on the side away from the traffic and behind the barrier unless it is safer to stay aboard. In the city, that includes keeping clear of the tram tracks. Let your office know as well, so onward travel can be arranged if it is needed. We will repair the vehicle where it stands if that is safe and possible, and recover it if not.
In the workshop at Melbourne
Coaches, double-deckers and minibuses share the lifts with the HGVs at our workshop. We service them to the manufacturer's schedule and keep on top of brakes and air, steering and suspension, electrics and lighting, heating and cooling, and the drivetrain. Safety inspections and annual test preparation are done to the same standard as for goods vehicles, with brake performance checked every time and defects put right and recorded before sign-off.
The repairs we see most
Brake and air faults, electrical and lighting problems, engine warnings and derates, clutch and gearbox trouble, cooling faults, and wear in steering and suspension account for most coach and minibus work. On passenger vehicles, heating and demisting matter more than they might seem: a windscreen that won't clear on a winter morning is a visibility hazard, so it is worth a check before the cold sets in.
Fitting round your diary
Coach operators have busy seasons, and those are the worst weeks for a vehicle to be off the road. Tell us your quieter periods and we will plan servicing and inspections into them. Mixed fleets of coaches, minibuses, vans and trucks can be covered by one maintenance contract. The workshop is open for planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00.
