Deliveries into a crowded city
A curtainsider delivering into Nottingham earns its keep at loading bays: at retail units, at business parks in the Nottingham Enterprise Zone such as Beeston Business Park and Nottingham Science Park, and at shops in the centre, the Victoria Centre among them. Every one of those stops is a chance for damage. A forklift tine catches the curtain, a load shifts on the A52 and bulges against the side, a strap worn by daily use finally frays through, or a reversing manoeuvre into a tight bay ends with a crumpled corner panel. Small tears grow fast once a trailer is back up to speed on the M1.
Why it can't wait
Body damage rarely stays cosmetic. A torn curtain can't hold a load in place, a broken buckle or strap is unusable, and damage to the body or frame can fail a PMI or the annual test. Until it is repaired the trailer is either parked or running with less on it than it should carry.
DVSA publishes guidance on securing loads, and drivers and operators can face penalties when a load isn't secure. A trailer whose curtains or fittings can't do their job can be stopped from going any further, which is a costly way to find out about a tear that started small.
The work we do
We repair curtains, buckles and straps and the fittings that hold them, body panels, gates and doors, and carry out welding repairs on bodies, frames, brackets and fittings for trailers, rigids and light commercial bodies. Damage that a driver spots on a walkaround or that turns up at a PMI is dealt with in the same way. Some minor repairs can be done at your Nottingham premises; larger jobs and welding are usually better carried out at our workshop at Melbourne, under cover and with the right equipment.
Repair or replace?
There is no point paying for a new curtain when a repair will last, or paying twice for a repair that won't. We look at the damage in front of us and tell you honestly which option makes sense.
One visit, not two
If the trailer is due for a service or inspection, we can do the bodywork at the same time so it comes off the road once. Operators on a fleet maintenance contract have damage picked up and dealt with as part of the regular schedule.
Booking a repair
Ring 01332 916028 and describe the damage, with a photo if you can take one, and tell us where the trailer or vehicle is. Planned work at the workshop is done Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00.
