Freight in Burton upon Trent rarely sits still for long. The town and nearby Fradley Park hold a significant number of warehouses, put there for their central position in England and their transport links, and the town's eight breweries have loads of their own to move. When a trailer in that sort of operation develops a fault, taking it to a workshop means unhitching it, finding a unit to tow it and probably losing a loading slot. Bringing a technician to the trailer is usually the better trade.
Where we work in town
A lot of our mobile work in Burton is on private ground rather than at the roadside: a yard in Horninglow, a bay at a distribution site, a coach park, or wherever a van was left overnight in Stapenhill or Winshill. We arrive with the tools and common parts for the faults that ground commercial vehicles most often, so the repair can usually begin as soon as we have looked at it.
Air leaks at couplings and suzies, failed lamps and broken wiring, damaged tyres, and the connections between a unit and its trailer make up a large share of the work. Where the cause of a fault is not obvious, we diagnose it before fitting anything, because a part swapped on a guess is money spent twice.
Defects off the walkaround sheet
A driver's daily check in a busy yard will turn up the occasional lamp out, leaking fitting or tyre that won't pass. Each has to be put right before the vehicle runs. Ring us when the defect is reported and we can often repair it on site the same day or overnight, then record the work so your defect sheet and the repair tally when DVSA looks at them.
If you already know about a fault, or an inspection left an advisory, we can plan the visit for when the vehicle is parked anyway, out of hours included if that keeps it earning.
Knowing when to bring it in
Some jobs are not worth attempting in a yard. Major component work, structural repairs and anything that needs the vehicle on lifts belongs in a workshop, and we will say so rather than leave behind a fix that won't last. In that case we either recover the vehicle to Calke Mill Farm in Melbourne or book a slot for you to bring it over. From Burton that is a run up the A38 to the A50, then one junction along to the exit signed for Melbourne.
Getting the right technician out
When you ring 01332 916028, have the registration, the make and model, what the driver found and how we get onto the site. A gate code, a contact at the bay and the time the vehicle next has to leave all help us turn up ready to finish the job in one visit. If the same vehicle keeps calling us back, we will tell you, because a repeat fault usually belongs at its next service or inspection rather than in another quick repair.
