Long Eaton grew up on factories. Lace mills such as Harrington Mill, West End Mill on Leopold Street beside the Erewash Canal and Bridge Mill on Derby Road rose alongside the town's railway wagon manufacturing, and housing, offices and factories spread through the Victorian period. With the High Street and Market Place pedestrianised since the 1990s, and a canal and a main line railway running through the town, it is often simpler to bring a technician to a vehicle than to move it.
Fixing it where it is parked
A lot of our mobile work is on private ground: the yard where a van lives overnight, or the site where a rigid has been sitting since its driver flagged a fault at the end of the shift. We bring the tools and the common parts for the faults that keep vehicles off the road, such as air leaks at couplings and suzies, lamps and wiring, tyres that make a vehicle unsafe to move, and the connections between tractor unit and trailer.
If the cause isn't clear, we test before we replace. Guessing at parts costs more and often leaves the real fault in place.
Walkaround defects before the next run
Plenty of mobile jobs start with a driver's daily check. A lamp out, a leaking air line or a damaged fitting has to be fixed before the vehicle goes back onto the A52 or the M1, and waiting for a workshop slot can cost a full day. Ring us when the defect is written up and we can often repair it at your site in Long Eaton the same day or overnight. We record what we did so the defect report and the repair line up when DVSA asks.
Planned visits, too
Mobile work is not only for emergencies. A known fault, or an advisory left after an inspection, can be booked for a time when the vehicle would be parked anyway, out of hours included if that keeps it working. Fleet customers often have these visits built into their regular maintenance.
When it needs Melbourne
Some repairs need lifts, specialist equipment or a long spell under cover, and those are better done at our workshop at Calke Mill Farm in Melbourne. We will tell you when a job falls into that category rather than leave a repair that will not last, and either recover the vehicle or arrange a time for you to bring it along the A50.
What we need from you
Ring 01332 916028 with the registration, what was found, where the vehicle is parked and how we get access, and when it next has to be on the road. If the same vehicle keeps needing the same repair, we will flag it for a closer look at its next service.
