A van in Leicester shouldn't lose a day to a lamp
Leicester's garment district alone runs to more than 1,000 factories, and clothing businesses still operate in the city alongside food producers, engineering firms and a long list of distributors. Behind all of that sits a big working fleet of vans, rigids and tractor units parked overnight in yards across the city and its edges. When one of them has a defect, the quickest fix is usually the one that happens in that yard.
That is the job of our mobile service. Rather than a driver taking the vehicle up the M1 to our Melbourne workshop and waiting around, a technician comes to it with diagnostic equipment, the tools for the job and the parts we fit most often. A failed marker lamp, a chafed air line, a coupling that won't seal, a wiring fault or a battery that won't hold its charge can usually be dealt with where the vehicle stands.
Yards, depots and the roadside
We work at operators' sites in the city and in the places around it, from Beaumont Leys and Birstall in the north to Glenfield, Enderby and Braunstone Town on the western side and Wigston and Oadby to the south. Tell us how the yard is laid out and who will let us in, and the technician will come prepared. Faults written up on an end-of-day walkaround are a good fit: fixed overnight or before the first run, the vehicle leaves on time and the defect sheet records exactly what was done.
The same vans cover the roadside. If a vehicle develops a fault on the A6, the A47 or the ring road and has stopped somewhere safe, ring 01332 916028 and we will work out whether it can be repaired where it is.
Knowing when to bring it in
Being honest about the limits matters as much as the repair. Jobs that need the vehicle raised on lifts, major component changes and structural work are done better under cover at Melbourne than on a Leicester industrial estate in the rain. When we reach that conclusion we tell you there and then, and either recover the vehicle or book it into the workshop on a day that suits your week, Monday to Friday between 07:30 and 17:00.
Planned mobile work
Mobile visits aren't only for faults that have just appeared. An advisory from the last inspection, a known oil leak or a tired set of lamps can be booked for a day when the vehicle is standing anyway, so the work fits around your schedule instead of interrupting it. Operators on a fleet contract often have these visits built into their regular programme, which keeps small jobs from piling up until the next inspection.
