Why the van comes to you
Our workshop is at Melbourne in South Derbyshire, close to junction 23a of the M1. For a Sheffield operator, whose nearest motorway junctions are numbered in the thirties, taking a vehicle there for a lamp, a wiring fault or a leaking air line would cost far more time than the repair. The mobile service exists for exactly that situation. A technician brings diagnostic equipment, the tools and the parts we use most often to wherever the vehicle is parked, and fixes it on the spot.
Sheffield's working quarters
The Lower Don Valley, the mainly industrial north-east quarter of the city, was the heart of Sheffield's steel industry through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Attercliffe, Brightside, Darnall, Tinsley and Wincobank all sit within it, and a large steelworks still dominates the area. Just over the boundary in Rotherham, the Advanced Manufacturing Park is home to engineering, automotive and research tenants. Stocksbridge has its Fox Valley development on a former industrial site. Industrial areas like these depend on vans, rigids, tractor units and trailers that stand in yards overnight, and those yards are where a lot of our mobile work is done.
The faults we fix on site
Most mobile jobs fall into a few groups. Air system faults: leaking couplings, damaged pipes and valves. Electrical problems: failed lighting, broken wiring, corroded connectors and charging faults. Tyre damage that makes a vehicle unsafe to move. And the trailer connections that stop a loaded unit leaving the yard. For anything less obvious, the technician diagnoses the cause before replacing parts.
Walkaround defects before the first run
A defect found on a driver's walkaround check has to be repaired before the vehicle goes back on the road. In Sheffield that might mean a lorry stuck in an Attercliffe yard or a van grounded at a site near Meadowhall while a workshop slot is found. Call us when the defect is reported and we will arrange to repair it on your premises, overnight or out of hours if that keeps the vehicle working, and record the repair so it lines up with the defect report.
The same service at the roadside
Faults on the move are handled the same way. If a vehicle has stopped safely on the Parkway, the inner ring road or one of the city's A roads with a fault that can be repaired there, we repair it. Ring 01332 916028 at any hour.
When the workshop is the right answer
We won't attempt a roadside job that won't last. Major component changes, structural repairs and anything needing lifts go to Melbourne, open for booked work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00, and you will hear that from the technician there and then.
