Two very different kinds of Derby mile
A van or rigid that spends its day inside the city works harder than its mileage suggests. Derby's inner ring road was completed in 2011, when Mercian Way opened to join Burton Road and Uttoxeter New Road, and a delivery round on it, along Lara Croft Way and through the city centre junctions, is a constant routine of pulling away, braking and waiting. Set that against a tractor unit that joins the A50 at Burnaston, heads east towards the M1, which passes about 10 miles east of the city, and spends the shift at a steady cruise. Both vehicles may arrive with similar figures on the clock, but the first has asked far more of its brakes, clutch, filters and cooling system.
That is why we don't set intervals from the handbook alone. The manufacturer's schedule is the starting point; then we look at the routes, loads and hours your vehicles really cover, and bring the next service forward where the wear is getting ahead of the plan.
Servicing that suits a manufacturing city
Derby is a centre for advanced transport manufacturing, and its two biggest employers are both engineering manufacturers. Vehicles that move parts and finished goods for that kind of industry work to delivery windows, and the cost of an unplanned stop is a missed window. A planned service, booked into a quiet week, is the cheaper way to find a worn belt or a weeping hose.
At our workshop at Calke Mill Farm, Ashby Road, Melbourne, a service follows the schedule for the vehicle: oil, filters and fluids, cooling, brakes and air, steering and suspension, electrics and the drivetrain. Anything that isn't urgent comes back to you as an advisory with an honest view on timing, so a Derby fleet manager can plan the work rather than discover it at the roadside. When a PMI safety inspection is due around the same date, we do both in one visit.
Booking a service
The workshop takes planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00. Ring 01332 916028 with the vehicle, its mileage or hours and when it is due, and we will offer a slot that fits your rota. HGVs, trailers, coaches, minibuses, vans and specialist vehicles, including emergency-service vehicles, are all booked the same way.
