Where Derby curtains get torn
Most curtain damage happens at walking pace. A curtainsider delivering into Derby spends a good part of its day at bays and in yards: the Kingsway Retail Park off the A38, the Meteor Centre on Mansfield Road, the Wyvern Retail Park near Pride Park, and the industrial sites of a city known for transport manufacturing. A forklift tine through the side, a strap worn thin where it runs through the buckle, a corner nudged against a gatepost: each one is minor on its own, but any of them can stop the trailer being loaded properly.
Why it shouldn't wait
A torn curtain or a buckle that won't fasten means the load can't be secured the way DVSA's guidance expects, and damaged load security fittings can be picked up at a roadside check, which can end the journey there and then. Damage also grows. A small split that is easy to repair in the yard can open up badly once the trailer is running at speed on the A50 or the M1, turning a quick repair into a new curtain. Body and frame damage matters too, because it can fail a safety inspection or the annual test.
What we repair and weld
We repair curtains, buckles, straps and the fittings that hold them, along with body panels, gates and doors. Welding covers bodies, frames, brackets and fittings on trailers, rigids and light commercial bodies. When a part is damaged, we give you a straight view on whether a repair will last or replacement is the better buy, so you don't pay for more than the job needs or pay twice for a repair that fails. A driver who spots damage at a Derby drop can send us a photo the same day, and we will say whether the trailer needs to come in now or can wait for its next planned visit.
Fitting repairs around the work
Some smaller repairs can be done on site; welding and larger jobs are better done at our workshop at Calke Mill Farm, Ashby Road, Melbourne. Booking the repair alongside a service or PMI means the trailer only comes off the road once, and operators on a fleet maintenance contract have damage picked up as part of the routine. Ring 01332 916028 with the trailer or vehicle, a description of the damage and, ideally, a photo. The workshop takes planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00.
