Part of the Nottingham Urban Area, about 6 miles from Nottingham city centre and 9 from Derby, Long Eaton sends its commercial vehicles in two directions at once. A van heading into Nottingham spends much of its day in city traffic, while a rigid going west to Derby on the A52 meets the rush-hour queues that build at the Pentagon roundabout. Neither is the steady motorway running that a manufacturer's service schedule tends to assume.
Intervals that fit the job
We start with the manufacturer's schedule, by distance, hours or time, whichever comes first, and then adjust it for how the vehicle is used. Urban stop-start work, heavy loads and long spells of idling all wear components faster than motorway miles. If a Long Eaton vehicle comes in with wear running ahead of plan, we bring its next service forward. If it is in good order, we leave the interval where it is.
In the workshop
At Calke Mill Farm we look after the engine oil, filters and fluids, the cooling system with its belts and hoses, the brakes and air system, steering, suspension and wheels, the charging system and lighting, and the clutch and gearbox. Anything that is wearing but not urgent is written up as an advisory with a clear view on how soon it needs doing, so you can plan the work into a quiet week rather than meet it on the M1.
When a PMI safety inspection is due close to the service, we combine the two: one visit, one set of paperwork and one day off the road.
Getting to us from Long Eaton
The workshop is off the A50 at junction 3, the exit for Melbourne. Junction 1 of the same road is signed for Long Eaton and Sawley, so the A50 links the two. Planned work is carried out Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00, and if a vehicle is not safe to drive over, we can recover it to us.
Seasonal checks
Winter tests batteries, starter motors, fuel systems and lights, and summer tests cooling systems. A service before each season is the time to get ahead of both, checking charging and starting in the autumn and coolant and air conditioning before the warm weather.
Don't wait for the date
If a driver reports warning lights coming and going, brakes behaving differently, air pressure slow to build or fluids dropping between checks, ring us rather than waiting for the service. Early attention is usually the difference between a planned repair and a breakdown.
Booking
Call 01332 916028 with the vehicle, its mileage or hours and its due date. Operators running several vehicles from Long Eaton can put the whole fleet on a maintenance contract so the dates are tracked for them.
