Roads that meet at Chesterfield
Chesterfield is a crossroads for north Derbyshire traffic. The A61 runs north as a dual carriageway into Sheffield, bypassing Dronfield and Unstone, and south as a single carriageway through Clay Cross towards Alfreton. The A617 takes vehicles east to the M1 at junction 29 and on towards Mansfield. The A632 runs between Bolsover and Matlock, meeting the motorway at junction 29a by Markham Vale, and the A619 heads west for the Peak District and east towards junction 30. A breakdown on any of them can block a road that a lot of people depend on, so the call matters as much as the repair.
What to tell us
When you ring 01332 916028, start with the location. On the motorway, the junction number and direction of travel are the quickest way to pin it down. On the A61, say whether you are on the dual carriageway towards Sheffield or the stretch heading south, and give the nearest junction or landmark: the roundabout where the A619 meets the A61, Whittington Moor, or the turn for Sheepbridge. Then describe the vehicle, say whether it is carrying a load, and explain what it did before it stopped.
Repair where it stands, recover when it can't be
We set out expecting to fix the fault on the spot. Air leaks, electrical faults, tyre damage and fuel problems are among the breakdowns a well-equipped technician can often deal with at the roadside, and that is nearly always the quickest way back to work.
Where a roadside repair isn't safe or isn't possible, we lift and move the vehicle using kit that suits its weight. Our workshop is at Melbourne in South Derbyshire, and Chesterfield is 24 miles north of Derby, so we will talk honestly with you about where the vehicle should go. Often that is your own yard, where your fitters or our mobile technicians can finish the job, rather than a long tow south.
Coaches and the town's passenger traffic
Chesterfield's coach station, opened in 2005, sends coach services to London, Leeds, Leicester, Bradford and Sheffield, and one of the main bus operators keeps its depot at Stonegravels. When a coach or minibus breaks down with people aboard, give us the number of passengers when you call. Getting them safely away from the carriageway comes before anything else, and we plan the repair around that.
Who can use the line
You don't need an account. The line is answered every day of the year for HGVs, rigids, artics, trailers, coaches, minibuses, vans and light commercials, including specialist and emergency-service vehicles. Card payment is taken on the day, and regular customers can be set up on account.
