Curtainsiders and box trailers around Ashby-de-la-Zouch spend their days being loaded, strapped and driven hard. Food is big business in the town, from the snack factory on Smisby Road to the large distribution centre that ships food products nationwide. Work like that means pallets going on and off at loading bays many times a day, and every one of those moves is a chance for a forklift tine to catch a curtain or a corner post.
Damage that stops the job
A tear in a curtain might look cosmetic, but a curtain that is torn can't hold a load in place, and a buckle that won't fasten or a strap worn through is no use at all. Bent panels, sprung doors and cracked brackets can fail a safety inspection or the annual test. Until they are put right, the trailer is either parked up or working below its capacity, and a driver who sets off with load security they can't rely on is taking a risk with the law as well as the load.
Small tears, fast roads
Damage grows quickly at speed. A split that started at a loading bay in town can be a flapping hole by the time the trailer has run the A42 down to the M42 and back. If a driver spots curtain or body damage on the walkaround, get it looked at then. Repairing a small tear costs far less than a new curtain, and the trailer stays in service.
We repair curtains, buckles, straps and the fittings that hold them, body panels, gates and doors, and carry out welding repairs to bodies, frames, brackets and fittings on trailers, rigids and light commercial bodies. Some smaller repairs can be done on site. Welding and larger structural work is better done at our workshop at Melbourne, where the trailer can be worked on properly and the repair checked before it leaves.
Not every damaged part needs replacing, and not every one is worth patching. We give you an honest view of which makes sense for the damage in front of us, so you aren't paying for a new curtain when a repair will do the job, or paying twice for a repair that was never going to last.
Ring 01332 916028 with the trailer or vehicle, a short description of the damage and a photo if you can take one. Bodywork repairs can often be booked alongside a service or PMI, so the trailer only comes off the road once. The workshop handles planned work Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00, and if the damage means a load can't be secured, tell us when you call so we can look at it sooner.
